This article explains what a Cyber Range Exercise is, how to join one, how to prepare, and what you're measured on during the exercise.
What is a Cyber Range Exercise?
A Cyber Range Exercise is a multiplayer exercise in which you collaborate with your peers in realistic simulations of cybersecurity incidents. You'll work through tasks that test your ability to investigate, respond to, and contain threats — putting your skills and knowledge into practice in a scenario that mirrors real-world conditions. You may compete with other groups in your organization, so do your best!
How do I join an exercise?
To join an exercise, navigate to Exercise in the main navigation menu, and then Cyber Range Exercises.
Exercises assigned to you are listed in the assigned to me area, which also displays exercise start dates.
You can join and leave the exercise at any time within the start and end date. To do so, select the exercise, and then select the join exercise button. This'll appear once the exercise is live.
For the best experience, coordinate with the other members of your group so you can collaborate effectively. Find your group members listed in the participants tab.
Before an exercise starts
Before the exercise start date, read the content in the overview tab. This gives you context on the scenario and the skills you'll need, so you can hit the ground running when the exercise goes live.
During an exercise: what am I measured on?
When participating in an exercise, you'll be marked against three metrics:
- Completed tasks: the number of tasks you've completed.
- Accuracy: the accuracy of all answers you've submitted per task.
- Active time: the time you've spent in the exercise. It starts when you join and ends when you exit, or when the exercise deadline is reached.
Active time is measured as the total time that any participant — or multiple participants in the group — were connected to the exercise. If two participants are logged in at the same time (for example, between 1pm and 2pm), this only counts the time of one participant (one hour in this example).
