This article walks you through what you'll see when you're inside a live Cyber Range Exercise and how to track your performance as you go.
Join an exercise and participate
Join an exercise
When an exercise is live, select it and then choose the join exercise button to enter.
The task panel
Once you've joined, you'll see the task panel listing every task you need to solve to complete the exercise. Tasks are presented in order, and you work through them by submitting answers. When any participant in your group enters the correct answer for a task, it's marked as correct for everyone in the group — so you can divide and conquer, or work through tasks together.
Environment tools
The exercise also gives you a set of tools for navigating and working within the environment.
The Briefing tab gives you an overview of the exercise — useful to revisit if you need a reminder of the scenario context mid-exercise.
Systems lists the environments and applications you'll need to solve the tasks. Selecting a system from this list spins it up in a new tab. The example below shows Kali and Velociraptor:
The Network tab shows a visual diagram of the network, which can help you understand how systems relate to each other.
VPN gives you options to access the exercise environments through a VPN using an OpenVPN client, as if you were working on your own machine.
The Clipboard tool lets you copy and paste text in and out of the virtual machine. See our clipboard support guide for more information.
Live performance data
During the exercise, you can check how you and your group are doing in real time. Select the performance (live) tab before entering the exercise to see this data:
The tab shows your personal performance alongside your group's performance, covering completed tasks, accuracy, and active time. For definitions of each metric, see the Getting Started guide.
You'll also see team-specific metrics, including your team's ranking against other teams. Find more information on exercise ranking metrics here.
