When you create or edit a custom lab, the Lab details page appears. On the Lab details page, you will configure various important pieces of your lab, including the title, description, time required, and points gained for completing the lab.
Note: On the Lab details page, the name of your organization appears in the Created by field. Once your lab is published, this will allow you to distinguish between labs created by your organization and those created by Immersive.
To configure the various settings for your lab details:
-
On the Lab details page, click Edit.
The Lab details page appears.
- In the Title field, add a descriptive title for your lab.
- In the Introduction field, provide a short introductory description that explains what the lab is all about. You can use bold, italics, or add a code block into this field.
- From the Estimated time required drop-down list, provide a rough guide of how long a user would expect to spend completing this lab. This can be set in 15-minute increments. We recommend estimating based on your own understanding of the lab's content, user testing, and feedback.
-
From the Difficulty (points) drop-down list, select the estimated difficulty level (1-9) and its corresponding point value (10-1000). The difficulty dictates how many points a user will gain from completing the lab. Gamification is an important aspect of Immersive One, and ensuring users can gain points and work their way up the leaderboard is a great feature of custom labs. We recommend using the Lab Difficulty Guide when deciding what difficulty to set for the lab. Remember to make it realistic, as the points gained from lab completion will affect the leaderboard.
Note: You can update the estimated time or difficulty after you publish the lab, even if the lab has been completed by members of your organization. If you change the difficulty level, users who have already completed the lab will not have their points updated to the new level; this change will only apply to users who complete the lab after the update is published.
- In the Learning outcomes section, provide a list of items that describe what the user will learn about in the lab. Most labs have a number of learning outcomes. You can add multiple different learning outcomes by clicking the + Add button to add more.
- In the What's involved section, specify which activities the user will actually be completing in the lab. Will they be reading documentation and answering questions? Will they be reviewing misconfigured code? Will they be loading a practical machine to get hands-on with custom tools?
- Click Save changes.
The majority of the information that you configure on this page will be reflected in the lab's details page, which appears when a user selects a lab on the platform. In the example below, OrchidCorp is building a custom lab to onboard their developers and give them an insight into Application Security at the organization.
