Managing access to content and deploying learning activities across your organization is easier with Teams. Teams give a way not just to group users, but to automatically manage user access. Team membership can be used to grant and revoke licenses (access to content) and to assign activities like labs or exercises.

The Manager View: Applying Licenses to a Team
As an Org Manager or License Manager, you can apply a license directly to a team, rather than assigning them user-by-user.
- Navigate to the Platform Settings, Teams, then select a team.
- Go to the Licenses tab.
- Under the Manage Licenses heading, you can choose Licenses to assign to the team.
Under Inherited Licenses, you can see the licenses that members of the team will inherit a seat on, either because they’re assigned to the organization as a whole, or to a parent team.
Once the license is applied to the team, it's ready to be automatically claimed by Team members.
Joining a Team: What a Member Gains
When an individual is added to a Team, the system automatically assigns licenses and active assignments access and enrollment for any content applied to that Team.
This ensures that new team members get access to the right content and are notified of any assignments immediately.
| Action | Result |
| Gains a License Seat | The user automatically claims an available seat on any Team License. This immediately grants them access to the associated content. Note: users may not receive licenses if the seat limit has been reached. |
| Receives Pending and Active Assignments | The user is automatically enrolled in all Assignments that are pending (haven’t started), or active. Closed and Overdue assignments won’t be assigned to new users. |
Leaving a Team: What a Member Loses
When an individual is removed from a Team (or moved to a Team that doesn't share the same assignments/licenses), the system instantly manages the de-provisioning of their licenses and removes them from any Pending or Active assignments they received by being a member of the team.
| Action | Result |
| License seat is revoked | The user's claimed seat on the License is instantly revoked. They will lose access to the licensed content. |
| Removed from Pending and Active Assignments | The user is automatically unassigned and removed from all current Assignments that were inherited by being a member of that Team. |
Important: Hierarchy and Exceptions
Keep these two rules in mind when relying on Team membership to manage access:
Hierarchy Inheritance
Licenses and assignments follow the Team hierarchy. If you have nested Teams (e.g., Organization > North America > Security Operations), any licenses or assignments applied to a higher-level Team (like North America) are automatically inherited by all the Teams and users below it (like Security Operations).
Removing a user from a lower-level Team may cause them to lose licenses/assignments from all parent Teams above it as well.
Licenses and Assignments that are NOT affected
Changing a user's Team membership will not affect any licenses or assignments applied through the following methods:
- Organization-Level Access: Any license or assignment that was applied to the entire Organization (at the highest level) will remain with the user.
- Individual User Access: Any license or assignment that was assigned directly to the user (regardless of Team membership) will remain with them.
