Aims
Start by answering these questions:
- Why are you creating the custom collection?
- What are you trying to achieve?
- What difference do you want to see in your employees upon completion?
- When do you want to achieve this?
Measures
Once you've determined your objectives, consider how you'll measure any outcomes. What would determine whether your custom collection had the desired effect?
Metrics could be:
- Platform usage data
You'll have access to a variety of usage and completion data through platform reports. Explore completion data relating to your custom collections.
- Employee feedback
You could create a survey to accompany the completion of your custom collection. Consider using both open-ended and closed-ended questions.
- Measures related to your organization specifically, such as: number of threats exposed and remediated, event response times, accuracy of information, speed, and quality of Indicators of Compromise (IoCs) identified.
Audience
Consider:
- Who are you targeting? Any specific teams?
- Are there other teams in your organization that might benefit from a similar collection of labs?
Engagement and motivation
Consider:
- How will you communicate the assignment to your team(s)?
- When would you like the objective to be completed? Considering this and setting a 'due date' will help with maintaining momentum.
Creating your collection
Once you've considered your objectives, your audience and how to engage them, create your collection.
Consider:
- The number of labs to include
- Time it will take to complete
It will make sense to think about these two things alongside each other, as more labs are likely to require more time from your assignees.
A large number of labs could make your individuals feel that completing the collection is unattainable . If you do have a lot of content in mind, consider breaking this down thematically into a number of custom collections, rather than cramming it all into one.
We've found that collections work best when they include between five to 15 labs. Get in touch with your Customer Success Manager if you're after specific advice or support with this.
Also consider:
- The content
You may choose to have a very narrow focus; this would be the case if your aim was to make your team better in a specific area. You could then choose labs in this area with the aim of creating a collection with linear progression.
Alternatively, the custom collection could instead broaden the breadth of capability across multiple areas. You could then select labs according to roles, or grouped by level of difficulty.
Assigning your collection
When you've selected your labs, you're all set for assigning the collection to your team(s).
We recommend setting a due date.
This not only helps engage your employees, but also ensures your aim is achieved in a set timeframe and allows you to start measuring progress against this.
It also allows you to capture reporting data around completion status against the due date.
